Lead Shot for NS1000 Stands

Post by ChrisOH1 » Tue Sep 10, 2019 4:23 pm

I filled my stands that Jamie made with kiln dried sand as i could not find any lead shot locally. I would like to fill them with lead and wonder if anyone who has recalls the amount of lead involved please?

Regards

Chris

Golly, it’s years ago I did mine and I’ve no idea how much I needed. I know I bought it from a combination of a gun dealer (shotguns) and a dive shop (though they don’t use lead shot anymore)

Hello gents,

Tenner says you'll end up with 5lbs spare due to lack of holes in cross members

How about 5lbs of lead instead?

I actually made my stands and haven’t seen Jamie’s (except in pictures) but they look to be a pretty close copy of mine. If that is so then, as Si says, the cross members are not fillable, just the uprights. The tube has a wall thickness of about 4mm too which further reduces the internal area and the end plates are something like 6mm.

Plan is to shove anything left, along with the remains of the kiln dried sand I have into the three cylindrical uprights of my main stand. Mainly didn't want to be ordering too little

If there were air tight I'd fill with shot and oil.

I did think of filling mine with a combo of lead shot and silver sand - but I didn’t in the end - not one one of my more entertaining stories.
