Well Si 'turned around' my Paradise super quickly (it does help that he lives about five minutes away) and last night (when I was supposed to be doing some work) I listened to the new Aldous Harding album (Designer). This round of mods has definitely done something, and in a way I think it's quite profound - subtle but, at the same time, pivotal. Somebody wrote earlier that there is a sense of ease and, in a way, I think that's true. Melodies and lyrical threads spring as if out of nowhere, fresh and clean - super detailed but without any sense of etch or glare. Bass comes and goes, ebbs and swells, with no sense that it is coming from the speakers and the resolution is crystal.
Great to hear that Mark, subtle but profound is a result. Looking forward to hearing the results for myself.

Well subject to joachim caving in and offering a license on the pcb's for the Paradise this is as far as it goes.

Ladies and gentlement, subject to acts of god, this will be the last Paradise.

Details of Steve's build to follow. He's going balls out though, TX where sensible and silver coils on the Calvins. I'm looking forward to completing this one.

Summer Special

Post by YNWaN » Wed May 15, 2019 3:08 pm

I have decided that, if there is sufficient interest, I may make some special little ‘hot house’ modules for Paradise owners.

WTF are you on about, I hear you proclaiming. Well, near the cartridge loading, there is a row of six transistors and it has been recommended that they all track each other thermally. What this means is housing them in a small ‘hot house’. When I built my own paradise I made a pair of these for myself (from black acrylic) and they have served me well ever since. However, I now have the ability to 3D print such things.

They're all a little bit different though becuase the electrolytics in the power rail might be 5mm lead spacing, 7.5mm lead spacing and or bent left or right when assembled. You'd need to measure between the caps.

Well, I had thought of that and could make them all to fit the minimum dimensions. The acrylic I used earlier was 3mm thick but 3D printing will easily do 1mm thick.

I’ll see if Si has a set of made up boards I can get some measurements from without having to pull my own to bits (a bit of an exaggeration as they just glue into place).
